Charlie Le Mindu is a celebrity hairdresser, designer and club kid, whose headpieces and wigs are out of this world.
Text Milly McMahon
East London based and Bordeaux born hair maestro Charles Le Mindu designed his first collection after his then boyfriend asked him to whip up a quick wig for a catwalk show. Ever since then his hairy palms and vivid imagination have taken over and today his much sought after, experimental designs can be found on catwalks and editorials of the highest fashion order. Starting life as a coiffeur in a barber back in France, Charlie always knew he was destined for greatness, quickly escaping his hometown to embark on a series of life changing adventures. After navigating his way independently around Europe, snipping and trimming his way to earn a living, Charlie eventually settled in Shoreditch, East London. Here he apprenticed at Vidal Sassoon and Toni & Guy before progressing on to the celebrity bouffant circuit. Today as well as featuring in magazines such as i-D, Vogue, Dazed & Confused and Super Super, Charlie’s colourful creations can be seen adorning the heads of Lady Gaga, Florence and the Machine, Cassette Playa’s Carrie Mundane, Jodie Harsh, Chicks on Speed and the legendary B52’s. Charlie’s hair-raising antics are proving hugely successful, and as well as a mobile salon, the hairdresser boasts a range of stylish accessories to give your barnet even more bounce. We caught up with Charlie to find out more.
